Darla Denise Forbes, spectacular wife and mother, amazing friend, and avid reader of obituaries, entered into the presence of the Lord peacefully on August 17th, 2026. Darla was 54 years old.

Darla was born on December 21st, 1971, to Gary and Dianne Chase of Winnipeg, MB. Her younger brother Rick came along two years later to complete the Chase family.

Having accepted Jesus as her saviour as a young teen, Darla was quick to share her faith with Mike and through their dating years, they grew in their walk with the Lord together. Darla married Mike on June 10th, 1993. Together, they raised three daughters, Maddie, Emma Kate, and Sadie, who were the joy and delight of Darla’s life.

Darla graduated from the University of Manitoba with an Education degree in 1993. She taught as well as acted as principal until her children were born. During her time at home with the girls, she achieved her master’s degree in education. Over the past five years, Darla was happy to return to teaching part-time in grade three at Royal School. Darla also greatly enjoyed spending much of her spare time at home working as a court transcriber. It was a job she greatly enjoyed.

Darla’s warm generosity and servant heart were so evident throughout every area of her life in her activities. She volunteered at Grant Church in a variety of capacities during her many years as a member there, including teaching Sunday School, coordinating Daybreak, working the reception desk, volunteering with VBS, sitting on the World Mission Planning Team, acting on the nominating committee, and so many other roles. She was always the first to offer help to a friend who needed someone to plan a shower, watch a child, or provide a ride to the airport. She never thought about herself being inconvenienced and went the extra mile to provide for a need. Darla also had a deep love for dogs as well and was a huge supporter and volunteer for Manitoba Underdogs.

Darla was also passionate about fitness. Over the years, she completed a half marathon, was heavily involved in Spin, and was an avid pickleball enthusiast.

Darla is survived by her husband Mike, her children Maddie, Emma Kate (Carson), and Sadie, her parents Gary and Dianne Chase, her brother Rick (Dawn – Ashley and Cole), her mother-in-law Twyla Forbes, and sister-in-law Tracy (Kevin – Olivia and Jane).

A celebration of life will be held at Grant Church, 877 Wilkes Ave., on Friday, August 21st at 1:00 p.m. Please join us for a reception to follow.  For those who cannot attend the service, please see the livestream link below.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grant Endorsed Missionaries grantchurch.ca/give. Please designate your donation to “Darla Forbes – Memorial Missions Donation” or to Manitoba Underdogs https://manitobaunderdogs.org/help/donate/
